Yiaga Africa, a democracy and governance NGO, had raised concerns about low voter participation in the state during their pre-election report last week, highlighting that turnout in previous Ondo elections had been below 40 percent.

Reports from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirm that, as of 8:00 am, many polling stations across the state remained relatively empty. In Akoko South East local government area, Polling Unit 003 in Registration Area 10 saw INEC staff finish setting up the booth by 7:00 am, yet no voters had arrived. Similarly, in Polling Unit 007 of Ondo West local government area, the booth was ready by 7:20 am, but no voters had turned up.
