Oshiomhole: The People’s Comrade Who Dared To Speak The Uncomfortable Truth To Power On Behalf Of The Masses

When Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole speaks, the nation listens — not because of the title he carries today as a distinguished senator, but because of the credibility he has built through decades of standing on the side of truth and the ordinary Nigerian.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a recent viral clip, the former governor of Edo State sounded a hard but necessary warning to his fellow politicians: stop recruiting unemployed youths as political thugs to disrupt elections. His words were not mere rhetoric — they came from a man who has lived, survived, and triumphed through the very system he now condemns.

Oshiomhole explained that when politicians arm desperate youths for political violence, they often lose control of the weapons and the consequences. “After elections, those same arms cannot be retrieved,” he warned, “and they become the tools of crime that terrorize the very society politicians claim to serve.”

Few have the moral standing to make such a call — but Oshiomhole does.

A Man Forged in the Fire of Electoral Struggle

When he first contested for governor of Edo State, Oshiomhole was rigged out by the establishment. Yet, instead of violence, he took the path of law and truth. The courts vindicated him, restoring the people’s mandate and setting him on a journey that would later make history.

In 2012, he became the first governor in Nigeria’s history to win in every single local government area — 18 out of 18 — in his re-election bid. That feat wasn’t just political mastery; it was a testament to genuine popularity and trust.

A Proven Fighter for Democracy

Fast forward to the 2023 elections — while many politicians in the South-South hid behind the curtains of fear, Oshiomhole stood tall in the storm. In a region where the “Obidient” wave swept through like wildfire, he told his people in Edo North:

“If you must vote for one APC candidate, vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu before you vote for me.”

They listened. Edo North became the only senatorial district in the South-South (apart from Rivers State) to deliver victory for Tinubu. That’s leadership born from conviction, not convenience.

Still the People’s Voice

Today, as a senator, Oshiomhole’s passion remains unchanged. He has not forgotten the streets that made him, the labour roots that built his courage, or the masses whose voices shaped his rise.

In telling his colleagues to stop using the poor as pawns in power games, Oshiomhole has once again proven that he is not afraid to “cast the first stone,” because — unlike many — he has always stood on the clean side of history.

Comrade Oshiomhole remains what he has always been: a voice for justice, a defender of democracy, and a symbol of the masses’ eternal hope for a better Nigeria.
