During the conference, themed “Strategic Solutions for Good Governance, Food Security, and Sustainable Growth in Nigeria,” Osoba illustrated his point with the political tension between former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and President Bill Clinton. He noted that Gore, despite being Clinton’s vice president, hesitated to involve him in his presidential campaign due to concerns about potential liability.
“It is unfortunate,” Osoba stated. “Such situations are common worldwide, and it is rare for a deputy to succeed their boss.” However, he expressed optimism about the younger leaders present at the conference, believing one of them could eventually rise to the presidency.
Osoba also lamented the frequent instances of governors attempting to impeach their deputies. When asked about the possibility of constitutional amendments to better protect deputies, he suggested that little could be done in that regard.
