Osun Fire Incident Results In Three Casualties And Property Loss

According to reports from our correspondent, the incidents took place on Wednesday evening at Omigade Area and Okefia GRA within the Osogbo metropolis. The fire at Omigade, which affected a storey building, reportedly originated from an adjacent structure before spreading. Eyewitness Lateef Ayodeji mentioned that despite prompt response from the Osun State Fire Service, the blaze persisted until early Thursday morning.

Regarding the fire incident at Okefia GRA, resident Mrs. Olasupo stated that operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, alongside local residents, collaborated to extinguish the flames.

Kehinde Adeleke, Public Relations Officer of Osun NSCDC, confirmed that three injured individuals from the Omigade Area fire were attended to by emergency medics from the command’s ambulance service. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in either incident.

In a statement on Thursday, Ibrahim Adekunle, Public Relations Officer of Osun State Fire Service, disclosed that the fire, suspected to have started around 6 pm, resulted in extensive property damage. Firefighters from both state and federal services battled the blaze well into the early hours of Thursday, finally bringing it under control around 9:30 pm.

Adekunle emphasized that no lives were lost in the fire, although the affected properties suffered significant losses estimated in millions of naira. The incident has been reported to the State Emergency Management Agency for further assessment, particularly as the structure in Omigade Area was at risk of collapse.
