Osun Muslim Leaders Slam Tinubu, Governors Over Inadequate Response To Economic Hardship

The Osun State Muslim community has criticized both President Bola Tinubu’s administration and state governors for lacking the necessary political will to alleviate widespread hardship in the country.

During a press conference marking the commencement of the 1446 Hijrah celebrations at the Muslim Community Secretariat in Osogbo, President Sheikh Mustafa Ajisafe highlighted the leaders’ apparent indifference to the current economic challenges.

Ajisafe emphasized the urgent need for an aggressive agricultural revolution, particularly in the southwest region where agricultural productivity has been declining. He criticized the government’s focus on distributing motorcycles as empowerment tools instead of prioritizing agricultural development to combat hunger.

“President Bola Tinubu seems more preoccupied with the upcoming 2027 elections than addressing the economic crisis and inflation,” Ajisafe remarked. “Governors, similarly, are busy distributing equipment for hairstyling and beautician services instead of revitalizing agricultural settlements to leverage our comparative advantages and steer the country towards recovery.”

He urged for leadership driven by a genuine love for the nation and its people, rather than personal ambitions, to lead Nigeria towards prosperity.

Regarding the Islamic New Year celebrations, Ajisafe underscored the importance of religious harmony and tolerance among Muslims, highlighting a week-long series of events including Quran competitions, youth entrepreneurship skills acquisition, a public lecture, and a grand finale chaired by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
