The palliatives distribution committee of Osun State has announced their decision to postpone the distribution of the second batch of rice from the allocated Federal Government fuel subsidy removal palliative until it arrives.

This decision is intended to ensure that the vulnerable members of the public receive the palliatives collectively.

The Osun State Government tasked this committee with determining the distribution approach for the palliatives.

During a press conference, committee members expressed their commitment to ensuring the effective distribution of the palliatives.

The committee’s leaders, led by Sheikh Mustapha Olawuyi, unanimously agreed to delay the distribution of the 3,000 bags of rice already in possession of the state government. They will wait until the additional batch of 14,000 bags of rice arrives to distribute both batches simultaneously.

Sheikh Mustapha Olawuyi emphasized that their goal is to facilitate a comprehensive and efficient distribution process by waiting for the larger batch of palliatives.

In the meantime, the state government revealed that it is still awaiting the N5 billion federal government pledge to assist the state in mitigating the impact of the subsidy removal.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, although the state has received the initial batch of 3,000 bags of 50kg rice, they have yet to receive the promised N5 billion.

Alimi clarified, “Here in Osun, we are still expecting it and when we get it the whole world will know. We are still waiting for another consignment of 14,000 bags as well as 3,200MT of maize. Governor Ademola Adeleke is running an open administration, when we get it, we will definitely make it public.”
