An 18-year-old teenager, Abiodun Adewuyi, has been sentenced to three years in prison for the theft of water taps, as ruled by the Osun Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ede. Adewuyi was apprehended by operatives of the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after he was found removing the taps from a building in Durodola community, Owode-Ede town.

According to Adeleke Kehinde, the spokesperson of the Command, the incident occurred on April 16 around 5:40 pm. Adewuyi was caught with the stolen items, which led to his arrest and subsequent arraignment on Monday, April 22, before Chief Magistrate V. A. Adedokun.

The theft, classified under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law of Osun State, resulted in the teenager’s conviction and a three-year jail term.

Adeleke further disclosed that Adewuyi was found in possession of a total of seven brass water taps, and investigations revealed that he had been selling the stolen items to scrap metal buyers.

In response to the incident, Michael Adaralewa, the Commandant of the Osun NSCDC, urged parents and guardians to caution their children against engaging in criminal activities. He emphasized the importance of upholding family reputation and assured that the NSCDC would continue to ensure that criminals find no haven within the state.
