Governor Otti confirmed that those who failed the exams have been given an opportunity to re-sit, and assured that no one would be dismissed over the outcome. However, he explained that civil servants who failed the promotion exams would remain in their current positions until they successfully pass the test.
He added, “If you sit for an exam and fail, it is likely due to insufficient preparation.” The Governor also emphasized that the state would no longer adhere to the previous culture where everyone who took the exam was guaranteed to pass.
Addressing the ongoing investigations into allegations of pension fund theft, Otti stated that security agencies are actively looking into the matter. He reiterated his firm stance against the embezzlement of public funds.
Additionally, Otti disclosed that he had directed the Abia State Accountant General to expedite the payment of retirement benefits for retired Permanent Secretaries.
On security matters, the Governor mentioned ongoing collaboration between South East Governors to address the region’s security challenges. He also vowed to investigate allegations of extortion by security agents posing as a mobile court along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State.
