Online reports had falsely claimed that Ikpeazu was sentenced to death by hanging by an Abia State High Court over the alleged theft of ₦1 trillion supposedly traced to a secret foreign account.

Reacting in an interview with ABN TV, Ikpeazu dismissed the story as baseless and mischievous, describing it as a fabricated tale meant to mislead the public. “This is not news; it is laughable,” he said.

Similarly, former Abia State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, condemned the report as hate speech and called on the DSS to investigate those responsible. He further alleged that the fake story was a cybercrime orchestrated by individuals working for Governor Otti, citing a similar incident where false claims were attributed to a popular Nigerian musician.

But in a swift response, Ekeoma rejected Kalu’s accusations, warning him against dragging Governor Otti’s name into the controversy in order to curry favour with his former boss.

Posting on his official Facebook page, Ekeoma stressed that Governor Otti could not have sponsored such malicious content. “It is laughable to imagine that Governor Otti, who ran the most responsible and decent opposition politics in the history of Abia State, would sponsor anyone to allege that the former Governor was sentenced to death for alleged corruption,” he stated.
