Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of projects in Aba, Abia State, Kalu appealed to the president to prevail on the Lagos State Government to halt the demolitions, stressing that the destruction of homes and businesses was causing deep pain among the Igbo community.
“Mr. President, the demolition of the houses and offices of our brothers in Lagos makes our hearts bleed,” Kalu said. “For those who may not yet have the right documents, my plea is for you to appeal to the governor of Lagos State to give them a chance to regularise their papers instead of resorting to demolition. These are hard times, and destroying people’s homes only worsens their suffering.”
The Deputy Speaker further commended Tinubu for his economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, which he noted had freed up funds for states. He urged Abia residents and the media to acknowledge the president’s contributions.
In addition, Kalu appealed for the establishment of a seaport in the South-East, arguing that such a project would significantly enhance trade and economic activities in the region.
