After discovering dane guns in the vehicle, vigilantes raised suspicions, leading to a mob attack. Disturbing videos circulating online show the victims pleading for their lives before being brutally killed and set ablaze, while some bystanders continued their daily routines.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the travelers were mistaken for kidnappers, as tensions rose in a community plagued by frequent abductions. Despite police intervention, 16 people lost their lives, while 14 suspects have been arrested.

In response, President Tinubu condemned the act of jungle justice and directed security agencies to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
