Dr. Tony Iyoha, the chairman of the state PDP Congress Committee, announced that Chukwunwike’s election was uncontested, confirming his role as the new state chairman. Iyoha also disclosed the results for the newly elected State Executive Committee.

Chukwunwike is no stranger to public service, having served as a Commissioner in the State Executive Council on three separate occasions—from 2003 to 2007, 2007 to 2011, and again from 2023 until his recent election as PDP chairman.

Announcing the election results, Iyoha declared, “By the power vested in me as the chairman of the electoral committee for Enugu State PDP Congress, I declare you as the duly elected PDP State Executive Committee.” He noted that he and his committee members were in Enugu specifically to oversee the election for the state PDP executive.

Iyoha commended the Enugu State government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for maintaining unity within the party, despite the outcomes of the 2023 general elections. He remarked, “We want to thank the government of Enugu State for keeping the PDP family united. Since the Congress began, we have encountered no issues. The process has been flawless, and we extend our gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for making the PDP family in Enugu proud.”

Following his confirmation, Chukwunwike expressed his gratitude to Governor Mbah and the delegates for their trust in him and the newly elected State Executive Committee (SEC). He pledged to maintain the PDP’s dominance in Enugu State as the preferred political party.

Chukwunwike stated, “On behalf of the new Executive of PDP in Enugu State, I congratulate all those elected with me. A big thank you to the electoral committee from Abuja. Your Excellency, I assure you that this committee will offer unalloyed support and loyalty. Loyalty is either 100% or nonexistent, and this committee will provide you with full loyalty. We will build on the work of the previous executive, address any issues, and ensure PDP remains the singular party in Enugu State. With local government elections approaching in two weeks, we will strive for a 17 out of 17 victory.”

Other newly elected executive members include Chief Steve Oruruo as Deputy Chairman, Mr. Chukwudi Nnadozie as Secretary, Mr. Toby Odinwankpa as Auditor, Nnamdi Nwafor as Deputy Chairman for Enugu East, Ernest Nwaeze as Deputy Chairman for Enugu West, Onyi Odibe as State Organizing Secretary, Princess Peace Nnaji as State Woman Leader, Beneath Ajah as Youth Leader, and Mr. Uchenna Obute as Publicity Secretary, among others.

In his farewell address, the outgoing chairman, Chief Augustine Nnamani, thanked Governor Mbah for revitalizing the PDP in Enugu State, which had been significantly impacted by the Peter Obi factor during the 2023 elections. He acknowledged, “Peter Obi’s influence affected the party’s prospects in the state and across the Southeast, but we thank God that Peter Mbah survived and revived the party. Now, we are the party of choice.”
