A High Court in Oyo State has directed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to proceed with the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, the state capital.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The ruling was delivered on Monday by Justice A. L. Akintola following an ex parte application filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi. It effectively overturned a restraining order issued last week by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Naija News reports that the earlier Abuja ruling, handed down on Friday, October 31, 2025, had halted the PDP’s planned national convention.

The Ibadan convention is set to elect new national officers for the opposition party. However, three PDP members—Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Amah Nnanna (Abia PDP Chairman), and Turnah George (South-South PDP Secretary)—filed a suit claiming that the convention preparations violated the party’s constitution.

In their petition, the plaintiffs contended that the convention contravened both the PDP Constitution and due process, requesting the court to restrain the party leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from proceeding. They argued that the party failed to adhere to its own rules, the 1999 Constitution, and the Electoral Act in the lead-up to the convention.
