“I had previously appeared on this program and advocated for third-party verification of INEC’s system to ensure that there would be no glitches on election day.

However, on election day, INEC reported that there was a glitch, despite not testing the system. It is regrettable that INEC went to court to argue that non-compliance with its regulations should not be a basis for annulling an election,” Chidoka stated.

He further pointed out that INEC’s struggle with this issue tarnishes Nigeria’s image on the international stage. Chidoka questioned why INEC could not emulate countries like India and Indonesia, which, in his opinion, manage to conduct more effective elections despite their large populations.

It is worth noting that the PDP and the Labour Party (LP) had challenged the victory of Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidential election held on February 25.

They argued that INEC’s failure to carry out real-time transmission of results to the election portal warranted the nullification of Tinubu’s victory. However, the court ruled that INEC has the discretion to transmit results in any manner it chooses.
