The decision to change the venue came after security operatives sealed off the A-Class Event Centre in Abuja, which had initially been selected to host the convention.

Despite the disruption, the faction quickly reconvened at an alternative location, where delegates formally endorsed Jonathan’s candidature in a brief ceremony that lasted less than 20 minutes.

Jonathan was absent from the event, with one of his political associates, Fred Agbedi, receiving the certificate of return on his behalf.

The motion for Jonathan’s ratification was moved by the Chairman of the faction’s Forum of State Chairmen, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by former Minister of Aviation, Senator Sanusi Daggash.

Several prominent members aligned with the Turaki faction attended the gathering, including Prof. Jerry Gana, Adolphus Wabara, and other party stakeholders.

Earlier on Saturday, police officers blocked access to the original convention venue, deploying patrol vehicles around roads leading to the facility and effectively preventing attendees from entering. The restriction affected routes connecting the venue from both the Wuse and Maitama districts of Abuja.

The security action followed a warning issued on Friday by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who cautioned hotel operators, event centres, and owners of public facilities against hosting groups he described as unlawful organisations.

In a statement released through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister maintained that political factions not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not be allowed to use venues within the FCT for their activities.
