PDP Faction Suspends National Chairman Damagum, Secretary In Leadership RiftThe internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated as a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, citing allegations of disloyalty. This comes after another faction, aligned with Damagum, previously suspended National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba on similar charges of disloyalty.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a surprising twist, Ologunagba, who had been suspended by Damagum’s faction, issued a statement on Friday announcing that Damagum and Anyanwu had also been suspended from their roles. The statement read: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has carefully reviewed the complaints against the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum, and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, particularly regarding their letter to the Court of Appeal in Appeal No: CA/PH/307/2024, which opposed the party’s position in the case involving 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
The NWC condemned the actions of Damagum and Anyanwu as anti-party behavior, stating that their conduct violated the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office.
“As a result,” the statement continued, “the NWC, in accordance with Sections 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution, has suspended Amb. Illiya Damagum and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively. Their case has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further review.”
Until the investigation is concluded, both officials have been suspended from all meetings, activities, and programs of the NWC.
