PDP Fallout: Wike Did No Wrong, Suswam Reveals Untold Truth Behind Failed Agreement

Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has criticized the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for conducting secret meetings with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, without informing key stakeholders.

Wike recently announced his withdrawal from the PDP reconciliation process, blaming Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Peter Mbah of Enugu for deepening the party’s internal crisis.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Suswam pointed to a leadership vacuum within the PDP as the root cause of its ongoing turmoil. He expressed disappointment that PDP leaders struck a secret deal with Wike, leaving many stakeholders in the dark.

“I don’t blame Wike for backing out of the agreement,” Suswam said. “When an agreement is reached, honour demands that it be kept. If you’re not ready to honour it, don’t make it in the first place.”

He recounted how Wike had disclosed a meeting in Lagos where an initial agreement was made, followed by another in Abuja at a former Senate President’s residence where the deal was reaffirmed. Yet, according to Suswam, these discussions were never disclosed to other governors and stakeholders, including those who attended a separate meeting led by Governor Bala Mohammed just two weeks earlier.

“If the leadership was transparent, they would have informed us,” he added. “Instead, we were misled. The decision to engage Wike secretly, while sidelining other members, reflects a serious lack of capacity and integrity within the PDP leadership.”

Suswam concluded that excluding stakeholders from crucial decisions undermines trust and unity within the party, stressing that striking a deal with one individual at the expense of others was wrong and disrespectful.
