PDP Governors Break Silence! Makinde Reveals Shocking Truth Behind Coalition Opposition

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has emphasized that while politics is fundamentally a game of interests, any political strategy must consider the collective interest of all stakeholders involved.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
At the most recent meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum held in Ibadan, the party’s governors distanced themselves from any proposed coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to The Nation, Makinde clarified that the party had not been properly briefed on the potential benefits of entering into a coalition aimed at challenging the current administration.
“Politics is about interest and alignment,” Makinde said. “Before engaging others outside your party, there must be consensus and alignment within the party’s internal structures. I recall in 2019 here in Oyo State, we formed a coalition with other parties, but that decision came after thorough agreement between the party’s organs and myself as the candidate. Once we won, it was easy to allocate positions to coalition partners because the process was transparent.”
He criticized any attempt to unilaterally commit the party to arrangements without consulting its leadership. “You can’t just act as an individual within the party and drag it into commitments when the party’s organs are completely uninformed about the benefits or intentions behind such moves. They don’t even know if it’s personal ambition or genuinely in the interest of the party and Nigerians. These questions matter,” he added.
Makinde dismissed speculations that PDP governors rejected the coalition out of loyalty to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. While acknowledging the freedom of individuals to associate with others, he stressed that the PDP as an institution has not yet committed to any coalition.
“I disagree with those assumptions. What’s needed first is a structured process. If the party’s leadership plans to enter a merger or coalition, they must be informed and involved. Individuals are free to associate as they choose, but the party hasn’t formally moved in that direction,” he concluded.
