PDP Has Never Suffered Like This – Wike’s Ally Slams Obaseki’s Reign In Edo

Dan Orbih, the factional National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has blamed former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, for the ongoing wave of defections and the deepening crisis in the Edo PDP.

Reacting to the recent defection of the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, along with two other lawmakers and several prominent party members, Orbih stated that Obaseki has inflicted an “unprecedented disaster” on the PDP in the state.

He said the party’s troubles began when Damagum and his allies granted Obaseki control over selecting the PDP’s candidate for the September 21, 2024, governorship election.

A close ally of Minister Nyesom Wike, Orbih lamented the declining state of the party under Obaseki’s influence, noting:

“We’re heading toward a situation where we might not have a single PDP member left in the House.”

He added:

“We foresaw this outcome and warned the former National Chairman, Umar Damagum, that allowing Obaseki to singlehandedly decide the party’s candidate was like laying the foundation of the party on unstable ground. They ignored us, and now the consequences are clear.”

Orbih stressed that urgent efforts are underway to prevent the party’s total collapse in the state, citing what he described as the lasting damage caused by Obaseki’s governance.

“Our mission now is to reach out to deeply aggrieved members, who are even more disillusioned after witnessing the extent of the harm Obaseki caused both to the party and the state. Rebuilding the PDP will take time, dedication, and collective resolve,” he concluded.
