PDP Hits Reset In Bayelsa, Edo As Leadership Crisis Boils Over
The South-South Zonal Working Committee (ZWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed new caretaker committees to oversee the party’s activities in Bayelsa and Edo States for a duration of three months.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This action follows the dissolution of the Bayelsa State Working Committee and the previous caretaker committee in Edo, a decision officially endorsed during a ZWC meeting chaired by the PDP’s National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dan Orbih.
According to a statement released by the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Etim Isong, and shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, the decision was prompted by what the committee described as serious misconduct by the former leadership structures, which violated key provisions of the PDP constitution and hindered the party’s internal cohesion in both states.
“In Edo State, the party’s poor performance in the last governorship election was a key consideration. These steps were taken after thorough evaluation and are aimed at repositioning the party,” Isong stated.
He further explained that the reconstitution complies with the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), citing Articles 10(1)(f), (g), (k), and (4), as well as Articles 26(2)(a), 27(2)(a & b), 58(1)(a), (c), (i), (j), and 59(1)(f).
“This decisive action is intended to rebuild the PDP’s strength and ensure more effective leadership in the affected states,” he added.
In Bayelsa, the newly appointed caretaker committee is led by George Turnah, the South-South Zonal Secretary. Tony Gabriel assumes the role of Deputy Chairman, while Ebilade Ekerefe serves as Secretary.
Other appointed members include:
– Didi Werilaghebofa (Vice Chairman, Central)
– Andy Majors (Vice Chairman, East)
– Evelyn Odi (Vice Chairman, West)
– Biobelemoye Igoniwari (Treasurer)
– Awudumapu Agorodi (Legal Adviser)
– Erepagamo Eke-Spiff (Financial Secretary)
– Amain Oyeintariperedei (Auditor)
– Derri Wright (Publicity Secretary)
– Christian Akuraku (Organising Secretary)
– Ato Alfreda (Woman Leader)
– Nicholas Eferebo (Youth Leader)
In Edo State, Nosa Ogieva has been named Chairman of the caretaker committee, with Chief Sunny Okomayin as Deputy Chairman and Hillary Otsu as Secretary.
