PDP Is An Incurable Virus – Babachir Lawal Rejects Coalition With Atiku’s Party

Appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Lawal noted that Atiku has consistently attended political strategy meetings focused on uniting opposition parties under a single, formidable platform.

He remarked, “Atiku has every right to pursue his political aspirations, just like any other Nigerian. It’s not my place to determine which party platform he should run on—that’s up to him and his core team.”

Lawal further disclosed that despite Atiku’s active involvement, the coalition has unanimously rejected the idea of adopting the PDP as a foundation, arguing that the party is too flawed to be salvaged.

“In every coalition meeting I’ve been part of, Atiku has been present and actively engaged in the discussions about building a united opposition. From what I’ve observed, he is fully committed to this movement,” he said.

However, he added, “After thorough analysis, it’s clear no one supports using the PDP for this merger. Everyone agrees that the party is beyond repair—it’s infected with an incurable virus, and no amount of antibiotics can fix it. We can’t align with a structure that resists reform.”

On a different note, Lawal addressed criticisms labeling him a religious bigot. Rather than being offended, he embraced the label.

“I’m a trained pastor. I studied in seminary for four years and earned a master’s degree in theology. So, if someone calls me a Christian religious bigot, I take that as a compliment. It means my faith is visible in my way of life,” he said.
