The apparent silence of Umar Iliya Damagun, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in response to claims made by Nyesom Wike, the newly appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a PDP member, has caused consternation among certain PDP leaders.

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and a prominent PDP figure, was inaugurated as one of the 45 ministers by President Bola Tinubu. He stated that he had received approval from PDP leaders at the national and state levels before accepting the ministerial position, describing calls for his suspension as unwarranted.

The PDP National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagun, however, has neither confirmed nor denied Wike’s claim, and the PDP Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, has also remained silent on the matter. This lack of response has sparked concerns among certain PDP leaders, who see the situation as potentially divisive for the party.

Speaking anonymously to Saturday PUNCH, a former governor of a North-West state expressed his unease over Wike’s alignment with the APC and urged Damagun to address the situation promptly, indicating that the party’s unity might be at risk if the matter isn’t resolved amicably.
