In a telephone interview with Sun Newspaper on Sunday, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara emphasized that as a law-abiding party, PDP cannot afford to disregard the appellate court’s decision.

On December 20, 2024, the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, upheld the nomination of former PDP National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s national secretary, replacing Senator Samuel Anyanwu. This ruling followed two separate appeals affirming Ude-Okoye’s appointment, which was made by the PDP South East chapter after Anyanwu became the party’s governorship candidate for the 2023 Imo State election.

Despite the court’s ruling, Anyanwu has continued to assert his claim to the office, citing his appeal of the judgment and filing for a stay of execution.

Wabara urged all organs, including the National Working Committee (NWC), to adhere to the court ruling. He emphasized the importance of upholding the judiciary to maintain the rule of law within the party.

He stated, “The judiciary is the last hope of the citizenry. Whatever judgment, whether good or bad, is the law. Once a judgment is given, it must be respected. Disregarding the judgment of the court leads to anarchy.

“Therefore, I call on members of the National Working Committee to obey the Appeal Court judgment, especially as there are two appeals—one from Anyanwu and the other from Ude Okoye. The court has delivered a judgment on both appeals.

“No one should defy that judgment. PDP is known for being law-abiding. Every court judgment is the law. After the Appeal Court, we can appeal to the Supreme Court.

“But for now, the Appeal Court judgment is in effect and must be respected by the NWC, BoT, and all party organs, pending any contrary ruling from a higher court.”
