Peace Restored: Fubara Moves Fast With Five Key Appointments After Rift With Wike
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has approved the appointment of five new permanent secretaries to strengthen the state’s civil service.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The appointments were announced on Tuesday by the Head of Service, Dr. Iningi Brown, and include Dr. Wachukwu Worgu, Eke Owuma, Ogbonna Anthony, Dr. Jim-Jaja Gogo, and Uzor Henry.
The governor is set to formally inaugurate the newly appointed permanent secretaries on Wednesday.
This development comes shortly after Fubara’s political rift with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, was resolved through mediation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sources told The Nation that on Sunday night, President Tinubu convened a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by Governor Fubara, Minister Wike, the Speaker of the Rivers State Assembly, and several prominent state elders.
The meeting focused on resolving the lingering power struggle that had stalled governance in Rivers State and threatened Fubara’s administration.
According to a source present at the meeting, “The President spoke candidly to the governor, expressing his dissatisfaction with how Fubara had handled matters.”
It was reported that President Tinubu presented three key options to Fubara to safeguard his political survival and avoid a potential impeachment by the House of Assembly.
Central to the discussion was the full implementation of the original peace accord brokered by the President in late 2023, following earlier threats of emergency rule.
