People Got It Wrong’ — Wike Reveals What His Dispute With Fubara Is Really About

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that his political rift with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara was motivated by financial demands.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, Wike dismissed the allegation as a common tactic often used to sway public opinion whenever political allies fall out.

Responding to a question on whether he had ever demanded money from Fubara, the former Rivers State governor said there was no basis for such a claim, questioning why he would seek financial support from his successor.

According to Wike, accusations of money demands are frequently used in politics to discredit opponents once disagreements arise.

“Forget about people who say you were asking him for money. You know one thing in politics is that the moment you disagree on an issue, the only thing you can use to get the support of the people is that they are asking me for money,” he said.

Wike maintained that his primary interest had always been the progress of Rivers State, stressing that he expected Fubara to build on the developmental foundation laid by his administration.

“My thinking is that we do need to compete with Lagos. We have laid the foundation; he (Fubara) should be able to continue from there; we will give you all the necessary support,” the minister added.
