Controversial activist and political commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has taken a swipe at former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for his notable absence from the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s (RCCG) one-week convention. Peter Obi, who ran under the socialist structure of the Labour Party, finished third in the presidential race, behind the winner, President Bola Tinubu, and second-placed Atiku Abubakar. His campaign trail was peppered with stops at various religious grounds, often participating in night vigils and delivering messages themed around “Church, take back your country.” This religious angle in his campaign strategy was seemingly to rally Christian voters behind him, setting himself apart in a race dominated by Muslim frontrunners.

However, his conspicuous absence from the annual RCCG convention, a significant event in Nigeria’s Christian calendar, has raised eyebrows. For Adeyanju, this is evidence of what he perceives as Obi’s insincerity during his campaign.
