The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has voiced its criticism of Nigeria’s engagement in the proposed military intervention to address the impasse in the Niger Republic.
Prof Mahmood Aliyu, the national legal adviser of the PRP, conveyed this sentiment while addressing journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Friday.

He expressed reservations about the nation’s involvement in the conflict, emphasizing that Nigeria must address its internal security matters more effectively before considering military action against a neighboring nation.
He did, however, express approval of ECOWAS’ participation in mediating the crisis in the Niger Republic. He maintained that while ECOWAS’ involvement is reasonable, it should not take precedence over Nigeria’s national priorities.
Aliyu stated, “We’ve been unable to adequately manage our own security issues. What rationale do we possess to engage in conflict with our neighboring country? Frankly, I stand against it. It’s ethically, economically, and spiritually misguided.”
Regarding the provision of palliatives in response to the challenges posed by the fuel subsidy removal by the federal government, Aliyu criticized the approach, highlighting that successive governments have merely offered temporary solutions to the masses.
He contended that true progress lies in creating an environment conducive to job creation, enabling citizens to be self-reliant and lead fulfilling lives.
Aliyu, the PRP’s national legal adviser, called upon Nigerians to recommit themselves to the ideals of fostering the indivisible unity, unhindered progress, and democratic rejuvenation of the Nigerian federation.
Achieving these goals, he stressed, necessitates both individual and collective efforts, along with the development of organizational frameworks essential for their realization.
He further advocated for a new generation of leaders who embody patriotism, integrity, selflessness, and a genuine concern for the well-being of the populace. This, he noted, aligns with the PRP’s advocacy for a socialist resurgence in the country.
