In an interview with Arise TV during the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Obi condemned the purchase, claiming it reflects poorly on Nigeria’s global image.

Obi argued that the timing of the jet’s purchase is particularly inappropriate given Nigeria’s severe economic difficulties, including its status as the poverty capital of the world. He questioned the decision, suggesting that the funds would have been better utilized in critical sectors such as education and healthcare, which are vital for the nation’s growth.

Obi also called for transparency about the jet’s cost and proposed comparing it to the aircraft it replaces. He emphasized that Nigeria’s financial resources should be focused on areas that directly support the country’s development and well-being.
