Obi made this statement while criticizing Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips.

During a media discussion on Thursday, the former Governor of Anambra State noted that by December 29, 2024, Tinubu would have spent over 30%—roughly 180 days—of his time in office abroad, based on the approximately 580 days he had been in power.

Obi urged Tinubu to dedicate 20% of his time in 2025 to travel across the country, spending two days in each state. He emphasized that these visits would provide the President with a deeper understanding of Nigeria’s critical economic and security challenges.

Obi said, “Mr. President, out of the approximately 580 days you’ve been in office by December 29, 2024, reports show you’ve spent over 30%, about 180 days, on more than 30 publicly recorded international trips. I urge you to allocate at least 20% of your time in 2025—around 72 days—to visit each of Nigeria’s 36 states, spending two days in each one.

“As President, these visits would offer you the chance to grasp the urgent economic and security situations facing the country. Additionally, it is time for you to visit our national hospitals. For instance, consider having your next medical examination at one of our National Hospitals or Regional Federal Medical Centres, such as in Sokoto, Birnin Kebbi, Calabar, Umuahia, or Akure, among others.”

It’s worth noting that since taking office on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu has visited at least 16 countries, some of which he visited multiple times. These include Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), London (UK, four times), Bissau (Guinea-Bissau, twice), Nairobi (Kenya), Porto Novo (Benin Republic), The Hague (Netherlands), Pretoria (South Africa), Accra (Ghana), New Delhi (India), Abu Dhabi and Dubai (UAE), New York (USA), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia, twice), Berlin (Germany), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Dakar (Senegal), and Doha (Qatar).
