Peter Obi Sounds Alarm: Nigeria’s Roads In Crisis As Safety Concerns Escalate

Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, has expressed profound frustration and sadness over the worsening condition of Nigeria’s roads. He highlighted the deteriorating infrastructure as a stark indicator of the nation’s decline, noting the apparent apathy from both citizens and leadership towards this critical issue.

In a recent reflection on his travel experiences, Obi detailed a journey from Ekpoma to Benin in Edo State, which used to take approximately two hours but was significantly extended due to the poor road conditions.

On Monday, Obi took to his X handle to share his travel itinerary from the weekend, stating: “On Saturday, I spent six and a half hours traveling from Onitsha to Igarra, Akoko-Edo by road, to support our Labour Party governorship candidate for Edo State, Barrister Olumide Akpata. We continued our campaign through Jattu-Uzairue and Auchi.”

He further described the challenging trip, noting, “After leaving Auchi around 6 PM, it took us about an hour and a half to reach Ekpoma due to the deplorable roads, where eager Obidients had been waiting all day.”

Obi lamented the extended travel time, saying, “From Ekpoma to Benin, the journey, which previously took around two hours, now took us about three hours. I am deeply saddened by this deterioration.”

He also reported witnessing numerous accidents along the way, concluding with a heavy heart, “We encountered over a dozen accidents. It pains me to see how far we’ve fallen and the apparent lack of concern from our leaders.
