Peter Obi Under Fire! Labour Party Spokesman Slams Alliance With ADC, Hints Expulsion
The Labour Party (LP), through its factional Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, has voiced deep regret over its decision to field Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a scathing media briefing held in Abeokuta on Friday, Arabambi lambasted the former Anambra State governor, accusing him of deceiving the party and dashing Nigerians’ hopes for authentic national transformation.
Arabambi argued that Nigeria lost a golden opportunity in 2023 by backing Obi instead of Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, a U.S.-certified nurse and entrepreneur, who also contested under the LP. He described the party’s endorsement of Obi as “a fundamental betrayal of Nigeria’s desire for meaningful reform,” asserting that Faduri embodied the ideals of “disciplined leadership, transparency, and accountability,” which he claimed Obi lacked.
Taking aim at Obi’s political style, Arabambi dismissed it as “emotionally charged and filled with shallow solutions,” adding that his campaign fostered ethnic division instead of promoting national cohesion.
“One of the gravest flaws in Obi’s campaign was the ethnic polarization it generated. While Faduri gained support across Nigeria, Obi’s movement became, knowingly or not, a vehicle for tribal sentiment,” Arabambi said.
He further criticized Obi for his perceived silence on the rhetoric of separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu, selective commentary on national security issues, and a tendency to view complex national matters through a partisan lens.
Arabambi also took issue with Obi’s recent interview on Channels TV, accusing him of misrepresenting Nigeria’s debt profile by converting foreign debt using exaggerated exchange rates. He argued that, contrary to Obi’s claims, Nigeria’s external debt had decreased from $108.2 billion to $94.2 billion under President Bola Tinubu.
Praising Faduri’s continued political commitment, Arabambi said, “Instead of a leader grounded in discipline and equipped with a clear national agenda, we endorsed a populist who excels at saying what people want to hear.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Arabambi warned Nigerians against repeating what he described as “a monumental error,” urging them to support “leaders of substance and integrity like Faduri Oluwadare Joseph.”
Arabambi also condemned the new coalition formed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Senate President David Mark, and ex-governors Rauf Aregbesola and Nasir El-Rufai. He accused the group of hypocrisy and advised them to rejoin the APC and help President Tinubu fix the country’s challenges.
Commenting on Peter Obi’s attendance at the ADC coalition’s inauguration, Arabambi confirmed that his faction does not support Obi’s involvement. “He was introduced as the Labour Party leader supporting the coalition, but we disapprove. As far as we’re concerned, he is no longer a member of our party.”
He concluded by revealing that plans are underway to formally expel Obi and his loyalists. “Peter Obi and his associates will be expelled at our next National Executive Council meeting,” Arabambi declared.
