Peter Obi Urges Nigeria To Emulate Tanzania’s Power Generation Strategy

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has underscored the need for Nigeria to draw inspiration from Tanzania’s approach to power generation. In response to reports of Tanzania’s closure of five hydroelectric stations to manage excess electricity in their grid, Obi took to his official social media handle to emphasize the importance of emulating Tanzania’s strides in power generation.

Highlighting Tanzania’s success in providing electricity to both urban and rural areas, Obi lamented Nigeria’s persistent struggle with erratic power supply. He pointed out that if Tanzania, a fellow African nation, could achieve significant progress in power generation, Nigeria, as the continent’s largest economy, should be capable of surpassing those achievements with effective leadership.

Obi cited reports indicating Tanzania’s remarkable growth in electricity access, contrasting it with Nigeria’s lagging situation where a significant portion of the population still lacks access to electricity. He stressed the economic ramifications of Nigeria’s electricity deficit and urged the government to prioritize reforms in the power sector for the nation’s benefit.
