Initial reports suggest that the cleric’s wife, along with three associates, was detained on Saturday, followed by the cleric’s arrest on Tuesday. Alkandawi, also known as Sarkin Malamai, had previously released a video and audio recording mentioning the detention of his companions and his wife’s subsequent transfer to Mogadishu Cantonment by the army.

In an attempt to secure his wife’s release, Alkandawi received instructions from the soldiers, who contacted him through his wife’s phone, to present himself at the FIB unit in the cantonment. Despite his efforts to resolve the situation at the Zuba Police Division or the FCT Police Command, he faced obstacles.

Quoted by Daily Trust, the cleric questioned the soldiers’ engagement in an issue he claimed to be unaware of, asserting his innocence regarding any involvement in terrorism or kidnapping.

Reports suggest that the cleric had been embroiled in a heated land dispute with Ali Zuma, also known as Mai Gidan Dambe, a local sports center operator. Zuma, who was reportedly detained for nearly a week, was released from police custody last Thursday
