Plateau Community Suffers Devastating Attack: 40 Dead, Numerous Houses Destroyed
Suspected bandits have reportedly carried out a deadly assault on Zurak village in Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, claiming the lives of over 40 individuals.
The attack, which occurred on Monday evening, also resulted in the destruction of numerous houses by the assailants.
Residents of the community, speaking to PUNCH Online in Jos on Tuesday, recounted the harrowing incident that unfolded around 7 pm. Due to the region’s poor communication network, the attack could not be promptly reported.
Sahpi’i Sambo, a youth leader in the area, corroborated the accounts, stating that the bandits arrived on two to three motorcycles, armed with sophisticated weapons, and unleashed a barrage of gunfire indiscriminately.
Sambo lamented, “More than 40 people were killed while many others were injured.”
In the aftermath of the attack, terrified villagers sought refuge in nearby communities, as security personnel had yet to arrive in Zurak village as of yesterday.
Efforts to obtain official statements from the state police command and the Military Taskforce spokesperson were unsuccessful at the time of this report, with both parties requesting additional time to gather information on the tragic incident
