Police Apprehend Cult Members In Anambra Hotel Raid With Charms

Eleven individuals suspected to be part of a cult group causing unrest in Ihembosi community, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, were reportedly captured by operatives from Zone 13 Police Headquarters in Ukpo, Anambra State.

The apprehension followed an incident where the suspects allegedly invaded Las Vegas Hotels Limited premises in Ubahu village. Although 12 other members are reported to be evading arrest, police efforts are underway to locate and detain them.

An anonymous police source disclosed that the arrests were made on Monday after a petition was lodged with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing Zone 13 Police Command, Godwin Aghaulor. Aghaulor confirmed the arrests and assured that investigations would be conducted discreetly to uncover the motives behind the invasion.

The proprietor of Las Vegas Hotels Limited, Chief Omenife Onwuatu, had sought intervention through legal channels, highlighting the group’s activities, including invading the hotel premises armed with weapons and threats to burn down the establishment.

According to the petition dated April 16, 2024, titled “Threat to life, cultism, terrorism, ritualism, threat of arson, conspiracy, forcible entry, trial by ordeal, assault, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause breach of peace,” the suspects allegedly performed rituals, made threats, and recorded their actions, further instilling fear among staff and patrons.

As of the arrest date, attempts to secure bail for the suspects were reportedly unsuccessful, with orders from the Deputy Commissioner of Police for them to remain in custody pending further investigations.

The petitioner urged the AIG to ensure all members of the gang are apprehended and their implements recovered to prevent further violence and destruction.
