Anambra State officials have taken decisive action against alleged human trafficking in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area. Following a report by community chairman Mr. Arinzechukwu Azodo, the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare apprehended a couple and an accomplice. They were accused of attempting to finalize a transaction involving the sale of twin babies for one million naira.

The suspects, Ebere and Temple Nwankwo, were implicated after Ebere confessed to collaborating with Temple to sell her twin babies to a prospective buyer. However, Temple denied involvement in any transaction, claiming Ebere had repeatedly approached her for help due to her inability to conceive.

The investigation, prompted by concerns from community members about Temple’s suspected trafficking activities, also raised questions about the whereabouts of Temple’s own children, whom she claimed were deceased under suspicious circumstances.

In response, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, expressed deep concern and ensured the suspects were handed over to the police for thorough investigation and prosecution. This action underscores the state government’s unwavering commitment to combatting human trafficking and encourages public vigilance in reporting suspicious activities to authorities.
