Police Arrest Suspect For Vandalizing Electricity Cables In Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended a 23-year-old suspect involved in the vandalization of electricity power cables in Damaturu and surrounding areas.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, announced this in a statement issued on Friday, which was made available to DAILY POST.

DSP Abdulkarim stated that the arrest was a result of numerous reports from various communities about the vandalization of electricity distribution cables and other critical accessories.

“On May 16, around 1300hrs, personnel from the C Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted one Saminu Garba, 23, from Maiduguri, Borno State,” Abdulkarim reported.

The suspect was arrested alongside two other syndicate members who managed to evade capture and flee. The command has launched an active pursuit to apprehend them soon,” DSP Abdulkarim added.

He further revealed that the arrested suspect confessed to vandalizing an electricity transformer located at the state low-cost area via Gujba Road, Damaturu.

The State Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, through the PPRO, warned criminals to desist from such activities or face severe consequences. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities of this nature to the nearest police station.

Additionally, he cautioned those purchasing stolen vandalized property, emphasizing that they would face stringent penalties if found guilty.
