Police Break Silence: ‘Katsina LG Still Under Control, No Bandit Takeover!’

Reports suggesting that bandits have seized Kankara Local Government Area are baseless and untrue, according to the Katsina State Police Command.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, on Thursday in Katsina, the circulating reports alleging that bandits have taken over Kankara Local Government Area are entirely false and misleading.

The statement read:
“The Katsina State Police Command is aware of a misleading and malicious report making rounds on social media—especially on X (formerly Twitter)—claiming that bandits have taken control of Kankara LGA. We categorically state that these reports are baseless, unfounded, and intended to spread panic among residents.”

“The situation in Kankara is calm and under control, with residents carrying out their daily activities without disruption. The command, alongside other security agencies, has intensified efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling, and these efforts are yielding tangible results.”

The police urged the public to ignore the false claims and rely solely on verified information from credible sources, warning social media users to be cautious about spreading unverified content.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property and have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the fake report, with a view to taking legal action against those responsible,” the statement concluded.
