Police DPO, Divisional Officer Queried Over Viral Video Of Suspected Cultists Celebrating Renovation
The Rivers State Police Command has condemned reports alleging that suspected cultists renovated the Abuloma Police Outpost and subsequently visited the facility to celebrate the completion of the project.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the command reacted after videos showing individuals alleged to be suspected cultists celebrating the renovation circulated on social media on Thursday, October 15, 2026, triggering widespread public reactions and criticism.
In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing, the command condemned any action or association capable of undermining the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The command stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect lives, enforce the law and maintain order. It maintained that such facilities must not be used by criminal groups to gain public recognition, influence or legitimacy.
As part of its response, the command disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Abuloma Division and the divisional officer overseeing the affected outpost had been queried and relieved of their duties pending the outcome of an investigation.
The Commissioner of Police has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the validity of the allegations.
According to the statement, investigators will establish the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups who allegedly financed or facilitated the renovation, as well as determine which police officers authorised or approved the project.
The investigation will also examine whether established procedures were followed, whether any personnel breached professional standards and whether any officers were involved in activities that could compromise the integrity of the police force.
The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism, adding that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
However, the allegations surrounding the renovation and the identities of those involved have yet to be conclusively established by the ongoing police investigation.
