Police Escort Withdrawn: IGP Egbetokun Takes Action Against Yahaya Bello

Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun has ordered the withdrawal of all police officers assigned to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. The directive, conveyed through a police wireless message on Thursday night, cited reference number CB:4001/DOPS/PMF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.48/34. The message emphasized the withdrawal of police personnel from Bello and urged strict compliance.

Earlier, SaharaReporters disclosed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had requested security agencies to place Bello on a watch list to prevent him from leaving the country by any means. In response, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) issued an internal circular instructing its commands to apprehend Bello upon sighting him, citing ongoing investigations and concerns about his potential flight from the country.

These developments occurred shortly after the EFCC declared Bello wanted for an alleged financial crime amounting to N80.2 billion. The commission urged individuals with information about his whereabouts to report to the EFCC or the nearest police station.

These actions by law enforcement agencies signal intensified scrutiny of Bello’s activities and underscore ongoing investigations into allegations against him.
