Delta State Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda announced this measure ahead of the elections, pledging strict action against any non-state actors found interfering in the electoral process. He emphasized that these groups must avoid polling units and the entire election procedure.
To ensure smooth elections, the command has deployed Marine Police to the waterways and stationed officers in the 25 local government areas. Abaniwonda assured that, in coordination with other agencies, they are ready to protect polling units, RACs, collation centers, the offices of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), its officials, and voters.
He also noted that there would be vehicular movement restrictions from 8 am to 3 pm on election day. Only officials on emergency and essential duties, including accredited election monitors and observers, will be permitted passage during this time. NABTEB examination students are exempted from this restriction. Additionally, a ban on VIP escorts during the election will be enforced, with any violations resulting in arrest and sanctions.
Abaniwonda acknowledged the inconvenience but urged the public to comply with these instructions, warning that anyone found violating them will face legal consequences. He stressed that the success of the election largely depends on the conduct of the electorate and reassured residents that the command is committed to ensuring the protection of life and property and maintaining public order before, during, and after the elections.
