Following the Inspector General of Police’s directive to unseal the secretariats of the 23 LGAs in Rivers State, violence broke out in numerous council areas.
Speaking to journalists after conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the three affected LGAs on Wednesday, Mohammed revealed that a high-level investigative team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been assigned to investigate the incidents. Their findings will be reported to the Inspector General of Police upon completion.
Mohammed further stated that the command has intensified patrols to restore public confidence and reassure residents of their safety. He emphasized that several measures are in place to ensure security throughout the state.
He also urged stakeholders to maintain peace and called on the public to cooperate with the police to fully restore calm. “We are conducting a confidence-building patrol to assure the public of their safety. We are also assessing the situation and have initiated a comprehensive investigation,” Mohammed said.
“We have set up a high-powered investigative team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, assisted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police at the State CID. Our team of seasoned officers will ensure a thorough investigation, and the report will be submitted to the Inspector General of Police.
