In the early hours of Wednesday, unknown gunmen launched a coordinated assault on the Obowo Police Division in the Obowo Council Area of Imo State, resulting in the deaths of three police personnel. The attackers executed their assault in two separate operations across different locations.
The assailants not only killed the officers but also set fire to both the police station and the council headquarters.
In a separate incident, an anonymous eyewitness from Isiala Mbano Local Government Area reported that the Isiala Mbano council secretariat was targeted and set ablaze by hoodlums. Vehicles and buildings were destroyed, and many individuals sustained injuries. The eyewitness also mentioned that two members of a local vigilante group were killed during a confrontation with the attackers.
The eyewitness recounted that a young police officer residing at the NEPA bus stop was killed around 8:00 PM on Tuesday. The gunmen reportedly spent over forty-five minutes at the location, meticulously identifying their target before confirming his status as a police officer and killing him.
Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, stated that the Command has deployed tactical teams to apprehend those responsible for these violent acts.
