A former school resource officer from Washington was discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head after allegedly committing a double homicide and fleeing with an infant, authorities reported.

Oregon State Troopers located Elias Huizar with a gunshot wound after a pursuit near Eugene on Tuesday, April 23, as per the West Richland Police Department.

Huizar, 39, allegedly shot his ex-wife, Amber Rodriguez, multiple times outside the elementary school where she worked before fleeing with their 1-year-old son, Roman Santos, triggering a statewide search.

During the investigation, authorities found the body of Huizar’s underage girlfriend, identified as Angelica Santos, in his residence near the school.

Angelica’s family, grieving over her death, realized the teenager and Roman were missing, assuming Huizar abducted the infant.

Thankfully, law enforcement rescued Roman after Huizar shot himself. The child is now safe in custody.

Huizar’s troubled history includes allegations of misconduct during his tenure as a school resource officer in Yakima. Court documents reveal his relationship with Angelica began when she was just 11, and he was accused of impregnating her at 15.

After leaving the police force in 2021 amid disciplinary action, Huizar worked briefly as a substitute teacher until his arrest in February for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.

The day of the tragic incident coincided with Huizar’s scheduled court appearance for the rape charges and his relationship with Angelica.
