Political Bombshell: Adeyanju Dares Obasanjo To Speak Out Against Tinubu’s Government

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has challenged former President Olusegun Obasanjo to write an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, criticising his administration in the same manner he did during the governments of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and the late Muhammadu Buhari.

Adeyanju, in a post shared on his X handle, accused Obasanjo of playing a role in the exit of former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

He also claimed that ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had accused Obasanjo of favouring his kinsman politically.

The activist said Obasanjo could dispel such allegations by publicly addressing Tinubu’s administration through an open letter.

In his post, Adeyanju wrote: “Obasanjo is yet to write an open letter criticising Tinubu like he did to GEJ and Buhari, but he was the one who engineered Obi and Kwankwaso to leave the coalition, further dividing the already weak opposition.

“Atiku has accused him of working for his tribesman. This is the best time for OBJ to prove that he is not by writing an open letter to Tinubu.”

Meanwhile, former Political Adviser to Obasanjo, Akin Osuntokun, has claimed that the former president supports a Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Osuntokun alleged that Obasanjo played a major role in bringing Obi and Kwankwaso together for the upcoming election.

Naija News reports that Peter Obi is the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while Rabiu Kwankwaso is expected to serve as his running mate.

Osuntokun, who served as Director-General of Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, dismissed suggestions that Obasanjo was backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, arguing that the former president had been critical of the current administration.

He further stated that Obasanjo had supported the idea of an Obi-Kwankwaso partnership earlier but that previous efforts to form the alliance did not materialise.
