Usman, whose committee was established by former LP presidential candidate Peter Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and other elected party members, emphasized that El-Rufai’s move is crucial in strengthening the opposition.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday while joining SDP Chairman Shehu Gabam to welcome the former Kaduna State governor, Usman highlighted the importance of a formidable opposition in counterbalancing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and protecting democracy.
She stated, “A strong opposition is essential for democracy. It ensures government accountability, amplifies dissenting voices, and prioritizes the people’s interests. El-Rufai’s decision signals the growing need for a credible opposition to challenge the ruling party and uphold democratic values.”
Usman reaffirmed the Labour Party’s dedication to fostering an inclusive opposition space, where diverse political perspectives unite for the common good. She stressed that greater unity among opposition parties would strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process.
She concluded, “The Labour Party remains committed to working with all stakeholders, regardless of political background, who share the vision of justice, fairness, and the welfare of the Nigerian people.”
