Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has welcomed a group of former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State.

The defecting delegation was led by Danlami Zakari Unguwar Gertai, popularly known as Garkuwan Gari, from Gari Local Government Area of the state.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement announced the development in a statement shared on its official social media platforms on Sunday.

According to the statement, Kwankwaso received the new members and their supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano, where they formally declared their allegiance to the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

The movement said the defectors pledged their loyalty to Kwankwaso and expressed their readiness to contribute to the growth of the party while supporting its vision for national development.

However, the statement did not disclose the exact number of APC members who defected alongside Gertai.

The latest political development comes just a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the personal particulars and academic credentials of Kwankwaso and the NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso and Obi previously contested the 2023 presidential election on different political platforms before later joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The two politicians subsequently left the ADC for the NDC, citing internal disputes and prolonged legal battles within the party as reasons for their defection.
