Political Shake-Up: Funso Doherty Switches To PDP, Sets Sights On APC In Lagos

Doherty criticized the APC’s governance, calling it “exclusionary and extractive.” He pointed out the state’s deficiencies in essential services such as public water, reliable and affordable electricity, quality education and healthcare, mass housing, effective mass transit, and basic law and order. Additionally, he raised concerns about the government’s handling of climate risks like flooding.

Doherty believes that the PDP, with its national reach and robust structure, provides the best platform to challenge the APC’s dominance in Lagos. He emphasized his commitment to working collaboratively to address these issues and usher in a new era of inclusive governance and prosperity.

In his statement, Doherty said: “After thorough consultations, I am pleased to announce my move to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This decision is driven by our need for a credible alternative to the current governance model that has prevailed since 1999.

“Despite significant expenditures, Lagos State still suffers from a lack of basic services, including public water, reliable power, quality education and healthcare, mass housing, efficient transit, and effective law enforcement. The current administration’s handling of climate risks like flooding is also concerning.

“It is crucial to present a united front against the current administration’s entrenched, insensitive leadership. We aim to offer effective, inclusive, and accountable governance.

“The PDP’s national presence and structure make it the ideal platform to challenge the status quo. With the right candidates and collective effort, we can foster meaningful change.

“I appreciate the support and advice I have received. We are aware of the challenges ahead, including managing intra-party differences, and are committed to addressing them.

“I invite everyone to join us in forging a new era of inclusive governance and people-centered development in Lagos State.”
