Political Shake-Up: PDP Suspends Kebbi LGA Chairman Amid Controversy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Lukman Wurno, Chairman of its Birnin Kudu Local Government chapter, over alleged misconduct.
The decision was announced in a statement by the party’s Local Government Secretary, Lawan Ahmed. According to the statement, Wurno is to immediately stop presenting himself as the PDP Local Government Chairman of Birnin Kudu.
In his place, the chapter has appointed Ibrahim Maigida Halimbe as Acting Chairman until further instructions from the party leadership. The PDP said the suspension follows its constitutional and disciplinary procedures, aimed at maintaining unity and internal discipline within the chapter.
The party also urged members to remain calm, continue supporting PDP activities, and assured that steps are being taken to strengthen the local party structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a related development, the Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announced the suspension of Jimi Adebola Lawal over alleged anti-party activities, while also constituting a caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs until a state congress is held.
State Chairman Femi Soluade, in a statement issued from Abeokuta, said Lawal, a former aide to ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, was suspended for actions deemed contrary to the ADC’s internal democratic framework.
“We have suspended Mr. Jimi Adebola Lawal and declared him a non-member of the party due to activities inconsistent with the principles and internal democratic framework of the ADC,” Soluade said.
He alleged that Lawal attempted to dominate party structures through the “systematic acquisition” of two local government branches and the dismantling of existing state and local leadership. The affected local governments in Ijebu Ode and Sagamu have since been restored to their original leadership to ensure balance and inclusiveness.
The chairman added that further attempts to take over party structures at any level have been halted to protect internal democracy and promote equal participation across all factions. The caretaker committee will temporarily fill vacant state executive and local government chairmanship positions to stabilize party operations ahead of the state congress, the date of which is yet to be announced.
