He made the remarks while addressing members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Obidient Movement in Uyo, stressing that Nigerian leadership must be rooted in accountability and moral responsibility.
“Those who want to be called ‘His Excellency’ must embody excellence, and those aspiring to be ‘distinguished’ must live distinguished lives,” Obi said.
He added that anyone seeking the title “honourable” should demonstrate honour in their actions and decision-making, noting that leadership should reflect service to the people rather than personal enrichment.
Obi further urged a change in mindset among both leaders and citizens, calling on public office holders to uphold transparency and responsibility. He said the standards expected of leaders should guide national development and collective progress.
“Let this be the benchmark for our leaders and a guiding principle for all citizens committed to the nation’s advancement,” he added.
In related political news, ADC chieftain Idris Kalgo claimed that President Bola Tinubu has lost support among Northern Nigerians. Speaking on Trust TV on Saturday, Kalgo expressed confidence that the ADC will unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Kalgo said most Northerners no longer support Tinubu, except for those benefiting from his ministerial and political appointments. He suggested that the President could confirm this through surveys and ground research.
He stated, “We are optimistic at the ADC because February 20, 2027, will be the day Nigerians make their choice. It is also the day we expect to remove the APC government. Tinubu has largely lost support from the North. The only Northerners still backing him are his ministers and appointees—they just tell him what he wants to hear. If he investigates and surveys properly, he will realize that Nigerians are no longer with him; they are tired of him.”
